Nature and Recreation
Piriapolis’ natural context, its geography and coasts encourages the practice of all types of outdoors activities. During the high season, when the sea temperature is suitable for bathing, most of the people choose to go to the beach, to surf, windsurf and kitesurf , although the more fanatic practice their favourite sports or hobbies such as fishing, surfing or sailing all year round. The whale-spotting season starts in July. Each year, when spring arrives, the Southern Right Whale arrives to our coasts, irresistibly drawn by more quiet and warmer waters. It is here where the three most important life cicles of the Right Whale occur, these being mating, birthing and calving the newly born. Regarding its infrastructure, the resort is fully developed. There is an hypermarket, a cinema, a yachting port, a spectacular seaside boulevard, good restaurants, well-know hotels, zoos and parks amongst other, which add up to provide the residents and visitors with plenty of interesting features. There are a variety of short trips and journeys available, such as the San Antonio Hill ascent by chair-lift, challenging trekking on the Pan de Azucar Hill, guided visits to the Piria and Pitamiglio castles, the Parque Cascada, Pozos Azules, Fauna Reservation, Yacaré (small crocodile) Breeding Reservation, Fuente del Toro, Fuente de Venus, Fishermen Virgin, fishing trips, etc. etc. The port is located at the foot of the San Antonio Hill, a luxury very few places can offer: the possibility to have a sailboat or yacht, to go fishing to the peer or just to take a stroll to watch the sundown, all of this just a few steps away from our house. This is an invaluable asset for many people and Piriapolis has plenty of that… Also, for those who like more hectic moments and just 20 minutes driving from Piriapolis there is the international seaside resort of Punta del Este, with its glamour, shopping centers, hypermarkets, cinemas, hotels, restaurants, nightclubs, pubs, first rate shows and several sightseeing trips such as Isla Gorriti and Isla de Lobos.
